You need good leadership qualities whether you are a leader in your business, family, church or wherever. Not everyone is born with these skills, in fact, it’s something a lot of people have to put hard work in. If you are not being an effective leader, your unit could fall apart. Again, this applies to families, businesses, small groups etc. That is why I rounded up the Top 5 Qualities of a Good Leader.
This is one of the most fundamental qualities you must have as a leader. You have to be able to communicate expectations, so people know what standard they are being held up to. When problems arise within the workplace, communicating effectively cannot be overlooked. Communicating gratitude and appreciation is important for staff morale. If you want to go far, go together
No one can do everything by themselves. The purpose of being a leader is to lead a team. This means there are other people surrounding you, doing work as well. You have to be able to delegate tasks to your team so that they can be done. This also adds to efficiency. No one likes a ball hog in sports, and they don’t like it in the workplace either. Chances are, members of your team are itching to do good work and show you that they can handle it. Find the strengths of each of your team members, and use that to delegate tasks to them.
You have to be able to trust your team, and they have to be able to trust you. This is the only way that healthy relationships work. How do you build trust? By building rapport. Ask your team members how they’re doing, how their families are. You don’t have to get too personal, but you have to show that you care. You also build trust by giving your team responsibility. They are going to feel like you trust them because you’re delegating to them, and you are going to trust them more when they get the job done well. Solidify the trust in your team, you will all be better for it.

When your team feels good about the work that they are doing, they are going to keep doing a good job. It is your job to inspire that confidence. Let people know when they did a good job. If there is room for an employee to improve, then coach them through it. You can easily make your employees feel confident in their weakness by showing them how to get better. When things go wrong, either on your end or your team’s, keep the morale high. There is nothing you can’t overcome as a team, and let them know that. Be honest about the mistake, find ways to fix it, and then keep going with a positive attitude.
I think the image above says it all. Leadership is a tough love balance. You need to lead, which requires you to be the bad guy sometimes, but you also need to love your team. Inspire them to keep going, because if you don’t, they will burn out and leave. Tell them how they are impacting the company at large. Inspire them with articles, books or quotes. Most of all, be a good role model. If your employees want to be like you, they will have to work like you. So, set a good example.
There is no replacement for a good leader. How do you lead?
