I “retired” several years ago and told myself I was “getting off the race track”. However, after two years of sitting around my wife told me she was “going to kill me if I didn’t get off of the couch.” So here I am.

I am a serial entrepreneur having started seven businesses and owned two different franchises. As a real estate investor I have owned investment property in five different states at the same time. I failed a lot! But I just happened to have succeeded a little more than I failed.

In my blog, companies and products, my mission is to help people by Making Sense of Making Money for Making a Difference. I blog three times a week.On Mondays I tackle Entrepreneurial or Leadership Investing. Fridays I write on Social Impact Investing or Investing in Yourself. Thursdays I dedicate to Real Estate Investing. When I’m not blogging, you can find me at Charis Business School as a Co-Director and teacher.

My goal here is to create insightful, pertinent content that you can put to work in your personal finances, real estate investing, and entrepreneurship. Whether you’re just beginning to manage your finances or starting over, hoping to become an entrepreneur or an investor in real estate, then this blog is for you.To make sure you don’t miss my newest posts, you can subscribe via RSS or e-mail.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do we transition from living off my income to living off passive income without having to pay taxes?

Earned income is taxed higher than passive income. You will have to pay capital gains, but your taxes will still decrease.

Do you suggest we pay off all debt before buying a rental?

It depends on personality, gifting and skills… Most people need to pay off their debt before buying a rental property, but if you happen to be more entrepreneurial-focused and are able to generate additional income to help you build assets, then paying off debt can come later. Billy also recommends watching some of our vlogs that we have posted on our website and social media pages, since they touch on this topic.

Do I focus all my money towards paying off my mortgage so I can knock it off quickly or should I diversify and still have money going towards ETFs? Would you suggest having a freehold home and then start investing or do it at the same time?

If you can pay off a debt and buy a rental property, do both. It doesn’t need to be an either/or proposition- you can determine an amount to use every month or quarter over and above your student payment to pay down the student debt.

Be scouting for specific properties that would be good buys, and stay active in the RE market and one property could pay off the entire student debt just by buying it and flipping it in about a year. Once you learn how to look for a property, you don’t have to be limited to buying and renting. 2 things that tell you you’re getting a good deal are: the situation of the seller and the condition of the property.

What do you and your wife pray every morning?

Here are the 7 things that Billy declares each morning:

  1. Supernatural favor
  2. Divine connections
  3. God opportune moments (Kairos moments)
  4. Overcoming blessings
  5. Strategic plans
  6. Double Double (Isaiah 61:7 They shall possess double what they had forfeited and everlasting joy shall be theirs)
  7. Perfect health
